Work begins on a new Klondike campus

Construction is underway on a new Klondike Middle School on 40 acres of land east of the existing campus.

The 180,000 square foot building will be patterned after other middle school buildings, such as Battle Ground Middle School and Wea Ridge Middle School. Each grade has its own academic wing with shared spaces in other parts of the building for band, choir, art, technology and physical education. The main entrance to the building will face US 231. The new building will serve Klondike students grades 6-8 and help increase the overall capacity for the Klondike campus.

The new middle school is expected to be completed by fall 2024.

The new middle school is the first phase in improving the entire Klondike campus. The second phase will involve renovating the existing middle school to become an intermediate school for third through fifth grades. The existing elementary school, home to over 1,000 students, was originally built in the 1950’s and used as a high school. It will eventually be renovated for kindergarten through second grade students. The improvements will create grade specific neighborhoods to foster a sense of community and feature large discovery centers in lieu of traditional libraries.

The project will improve safety and traffic flow by adding additional access from US 231 and other site improvements to address buses and other vehicular traffic.

The projects are in response to TSC’s standards for educationally functional learning spaces and the increased enrollment and the subsequent need for more classroom space.
