Klondike Middle School held a Health and Wellness Fair to help spread the message of INtegrate to TSC families. INtegrate is a districtwide initiative that encourages students and staff to make healthy choices. Everyone is encouraged to strive for good overall health from fitness, nutrition, hydration, sleep and mental health.
TSC school Nurse Janey Vanliew, RN, organized the event that included vendors, sports challenges and fitness classes. She says it is important to get the message about the importance of a healthy lifestyle out early. "If we can provide our students and families with information at a young age, they will hopefully develop healthy habits that will go on into adulthood," Vanliew says. "So many people think exercise is boring. We want them to find an exercise that is suitable to meet their fitness level and one they find enjoyable and fun."
Participants had their blood pressure checked, sampled a fruit smoothie, visited with therapy dogs and learned about different services and programs available at local fitness centers and health providers.
Vanliew hopes to make this an annual event.
