One Great Read
The ONE GREAT READ Committee is a group of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who are dedicated to finding and promoting great books at KMS. Each year, under the direction of English teacher, Jody Vanderwielen, this group of students selects a novel that they feel is a great read - a book that is so well written that it is worthy of all middle schoolers and teachers reading it during the school year.
Once the book is selected, the committee members brainstorm unique ways to encourage and promote the book to the student body. This includes jobs such as: advertising, writing announcements, planning and running contests, creating games/challenges at lunch, and even putting together a game show at the end of the year. Students on the committee usually select a subcommittee that they would like to join and then focus their attentions on that aspect of the work.
The committee is formed the first semester of school but begins meeting regularly second semester. Meetings are approximately twice a month in the media center on Mondays during Nugget Time.
This committee is for those who love to read and promote books!
