Mathcounts

Mathcounts is a national team competition sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Mathcounts is a math problem solving competition for strong middle school math students. Klondike needs a team of 4 plus 6 individuals to participate in the regional contest in February held in West Lafayette at Purdue on a Saturday, Feb.3 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The state contest is held in March each year and alternates between Purdue and Rose Hulman in Terre Haute. At state the top students represent Indiana at the National competition held in May each year. Klondike had the National Champion, Mark Sellke, in 2010!

Each year we start practicing in October around once a week but students but in order to do well at regional and state they will need to put in extra work besides the weekly school practices.

For help and guidance on Mathcounts check out the Art of Problem Solving books and videos. www.artofproblemsolving.com/

and the Mathcounts web site(http://mathcounts.org) has a ton of information and helps. Mathcounts is fun and way to meet other area middle school students who are good at math. Mathcounts is open to 6th thru 8th grades. Taking Algebra or Math at the high school is an advantage. All three grades will be a part of the Klondike Math Club. We have earned the top gold level for 7 years and silver level for 9 years. We are the only school in the state to do this.
